Unwell and Serious Life Obstacles

Rinpoche gave this advice to a student who was sick and had life obstacles.

My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
Thank you for your email, I started to check about whether you should do the nyung näs and what came out is that you have quite serious life obstacles and you need to do these things:

Have the puja called Namgyal Tsechog [Long-life Ritual of Namgyal] done at Kopan Monastery for you.

I am not sure if this is possible for you, but if you can come to Nepal, you should circumambulate Swayambunath mountain eight times. This means the whole mountain, not just the top part. Do this with bodhicitta motivation and recite the Thirty-five Buddhas and Vajrasattva.

Of all the holy objects, the most important one is inside the mountain, the crystal stupa. It is not made by mind; it appeared on the lake, when Kathmandu was a lake, and then dust piled up and it became a mountain. Inside the mountain is the stupa which is the embodiment of all the buddhas’ dharmakaya. This was predicted by the Buddha on another mountain nearby called Langri Ruden, which is higher than Swayambunath.

There are all the holy objects on the mountain. [When you are going] around the mountain, think of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, if you have received teachings from His Holiness, and if not, then as you have a Dharma connection, think of that person. I don’t mean they are manifestation, but this is the practice, you have to visualize that.

You can do four nyung näs, but to do all the 108 nyung näs at Vajra Yogini Institute, it seems there are some problems.

Have the puja called che trul (Liberating from Harm) done. You have to be present for that puja, so if you go to Nepal then have the puja done by a senior, older monk at Shekar Monastery in Boudha.

Starting now, if you can, read the Golden Light Sutra nine times, with bodhicitta. Before you recite the sutra recite the [multiplying] mantra, then reciting the sutra becomes numberless times, so each session becomes numberless. Recite the sutra thinking you are giving teachings to the six-realm sentient beings—the numberless hell beings, numberless hungry ghosts, numberless animals, numberless human beings, numberless suras, numberless asuras and numberless intermediate state beings. Think you are liberating them from the oceans of samsaric sufferings and bringing them to enlightenment. If possible ,think that the Buddha is giving teachings and you are reciting after that, and you are giving teachings to sentient beings to liberate them.

Recite the Arya Sanghata Sutra twice. Start this now, with the same motivation and also recite the mantra to multiply the recitations.

This is my advice at this time.

With much love and prayers ...
