Practices for Business Success

Pujas for Business Success
A student asked if Rinpoche could suggest a practice that would benefit their business and the FPMT in the future.
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
I am very sorry it took so long to reply to your email. I checked about success for your business and there are some pujas that need to be done:
- Recitation of the Kangyur: This needs to be read four times by any one of these monasteries: Ganden Shartse, Drepung Loseling, Sera Mey or Gyuto. If money is an issue, we can ask them all and then choose the cheapest one. This is a big puja and many monks would attend, so there would be a small money offering made to the monks, as well as sponsoring tea and bread. This is part of the practice and it is creating merit because they are all ordained. So if you want, we can find out the price and let you know. Then you can decide if you want to do it.
- Zungdu [a collection of dharanis]: To be recited by the monks at Ganden Jangtse.
- Gya nyen lhasang [Padmasambhava incense puja]: To be done by one of my attendants.
It comes out best if you can recite the secret mantra of Ganapati [Ganesh] 110 times every day. It’s very important to do the practice with bodhicitta motivation.
So this is my advice at this time. I am also making prayers, and also for your health.
With much love and prayers ...
Business Success
Rinpoche gave this advice to a student who asked how to make their business successful.
Dear one,
Rinpoche checked for the business and said this has to be done as soon as possible:
- Recite the confession section of the Golden Light Sutra. Do as many recitations as you can.
- Extensive Medicine Buddha puja: To be done at Kopan Monastery. It’s important the monks use all the water bowls at Kopan. This means they include all these offerings in the puja when they do it.
Success in Business Ventures
A center asked about some business ventures and whether they would succeed. Rinpoche advised if they do these four things, then they would be successful.
- Gyag Nyen Lhasang puja: three times
- Four Mandala Offerings to Tara practice: once
- Gyab shi puja
- Recitations of Celestial Mansion Extremely Secret Sublime Success Mantra: 36 times
Pujas for Sale of Business
A student asked Rinpoche about selling part of his business. Rinpoche checked and gave this advice.
Generally it is not good to sell for some time, however, if you need to sell the business now, then do these pujas. This can help you to get a little better price.
- Nechung protector puja
- Kalarupa puja
- Dü-kar [White Umbrella]: five times
Meditate on the Kindness of Others
A student was struggling with his business. For the last eight months every deal had fallen through and he had made zero income.
My very dear one,
Regarding your question about success for your business, you should read Vajra Armor eighty times. Read the whole sadhana. At the end are the benefits, so once you know them you don’t need to repeat [that section of the sadhana.]
According to my experience, when nothing works for a long time that usually means that you received some black magic from somebody. Of course, according to Dharma, according to reality, when somebody gives you black magic, that’s because you did black magic to the person before, either so many years ago or some lifetimes ago. So there is no harm received from others, everything came from you.
Similarly, even other people helping you, any kind of good thing, is the result of your past good karma, because you did good things for others or you did virtuous actions. Whether you receive harm or benefit from others all came from your own karma, your own mind, your own actions.
That’s why in lo-jong [thought transformation], the heart practice by Kadampa Geshe Chekawa, whenever you encounter problems, put all the blame to one—that means the self-cherishing thought, your own self-cherishing thought. Towards others, meditate on their kindness. This is the emphasis of this essential practice.
Ordinary people in the world, even ants or worms, blame others when they encounter a problem. Maybe you think you are perfect and all the faults come from others, but this is totally wrong. The reality is that when you encounter any problem, put all the blame to one—your self-cherishing thought—and meditate on the kindness of others.
So this is my advice.
With much love and prayers...
Collecting Merit
Rinpoche gave the following advice on creating merit for business success.
I met a Chinese woman married to a Tibetan man. He preferred to stay in the car while his wife came to see me. She mentioned that they are trying to create some business which takes unbelievable patience, but will be beneficial in the future.
I made a Mickey Mouse divination and it came out that it would be difficult for them and it would create a lot of stress and difficulties in their relationship. It would be hard and painful between them. She thought, “Why do it, if brings so much hardship?”
So I suggested that she recite three malas of Hayagriva every day, also she should recite the Celestial Mansion Extremely Secret Sublime Success mantra, three malas a day, as it is a very powerful mantra. It is an extremely secret mantra that brings success.
I told her only reciting mantras doesn’t become Dharma if the motivation is clinging to this life, because if the motivation is nonvirtue, everything becomes nonvirtue. Even though we recite mantras that can bring success, the action becomes nonvirtue if the motivation is only for oneself. I told her to do it with the practice of bodhicitta.
We need to collect merit, to benefit sentient beings, to create good karma, then success will come. Then the action becomes the cause of enlightenment, liberation from samsara; it becomes the cause of happiness for this life and future lives.
If we really want to have success, we should practice kindness every day, day and night, to sentient beings—not only human, but animals also—if we do that, we receive benefit from others, and happiness. This is basically what I mentioned to her.
In reality if we act with kindness to one person or one animal, we receive 100,000 happiness, in this lifetime, if we do good karma with bodhicitta. We have to remember this. Karma is expandable—there are good ones or bad ones, even a small one we experience for 100,000 lifetimes.
I told her when we help others and do it sincerely, we will receive infinite benefits from them. It is very pure Dharma, even if we pray not to receive happiness, definitively we will receive it.
Also from time to time she can do incense puja with Geshe-la; it is a cause for success.
