Complications with Childbirth
A student who was eight months’ pregnant wrote to Rinpoche for advice because there was a possibility the child could be HIV positive and also there could be complications during the birth.
Dear Glynis,
I was able to check your question last night. If you can, please do the following:
- Medicine Buddha puja: three times
- Tara Puja: three times
Then, it is OK to have a cesarean. If you do not do these pujas, then it seems there will be problems both with a caesarean or natural birth.
If you can, have a caesarean three days after nine months of the pregnancy. I’m not sure what date that will be, but the main thing is to do the pujas. After that, it looks OK to have a caesarean.
I send you my love and prayers. Please make your life most meaningful with the thought of bodhicitta. This is what makes your life meaningful and most beneficial for sentient beings.
Now that you are having a child, it is important to bring it up well. I will send you some advice I have given others about how to teach children so they can benefit other beings.
