Completion of a Retreat
Big Appreciation for Namgyalma Retreat
Rinpoche sent this message of thanks to a center that had just completed a Namgyalma retreat.
My dear, kind retreaters,
A billion, zillion times I thank all of you from the heart. Thanks to all of you who did the retreat. When you recite [the mantra] for others and yourselves, it has so much power, so much power.
Even what expert doctors can’t cure, you can, if [the recitation is] done one thousand times or more. Bless the cream by blowing on it after each time you recite the mantra—you can do that.
It becomes a powerful healing method. And besides that, it becomes incredible purification and accumulation of merit.

Vajrasattva Retreat and Pilgrimage
A student wrote offering a three-month Vajrasattva retreat, which he said had a tremendous effect on his life. The retreat was completed at Kopan Monastery and the student had also gone on pilgrimage to many holy places in Nepal.
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
Thank you very much your kind letter. A billion, zillion times thank you for the Vajrasattva retreat for three months, and for all the things you did, the pilgrimages, etc.
Wow, wow, wow, everything brings benefit to your mind. That’s really what you need, the most important thing. Only then you can achieve enlightenment and free all sentient beings from the oceans of samsaric sufferings. Otherwise even if you know the whole Tengyur or Kangyur by heart, it won’t benefit the mind.
Please continue to make your life most meaningful with the thought of bodhicitta day and night, and in every action that you do, even sleeping, eating, walking, etc.

Thanks For All Your Practice
A student wrote that she had just completed a three-month Vajrasattva retreat, along with other practices including 90 days of precepts, Dorje Khadro, and recitation of the Golden Light Sutra and Vajra Cutter Sutra.

Thank you billions, zillions of times for all your practice—the 100,000 Vajrasattva mantras and so on. It’s fantastic! I’m so happy with what you have done so far and I will pray for you.

Thanks for Medicine Buddha Retreat
A student advised that he had recently completed a Medicine Buddha retreat. During the retreat, he took the eight Mahayana precepts, and made extensive offerings and prayers. He wrote that his mind was calm, happy and clear in the retreat, and he dedicated the merit to Rinpoche and to others.

Vajrasattva Practice is So Important
A student wrote to Rinpoche offering 100,000 Vajrasattva mantras.
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling one,
A billion, zillion, trillion thanks for completing the Vajrasattva retreat, with 100,000 mantras.
Of course by purifying negative karma collected since beginningless rebirth and by collecting extensive merits, this allows you to have realizations on the path to enlightenment and for your mind to change. There is always hope the mind can change, even to achieve enlightenment, so you can achieve a higher rebirth, ultimate happiness, liberation from samsara and enlightenment.
Vajrasattva practice is so important generally, and especially nowadays in the world, when there is not only global warming, but many other problems. There are so many other dangers—of war and sicknesses, cancer, and so many people whom you know are dying. There are so many sicknesses and other conditions for dying.
This Vajrasattva practice and other purification practices are the ultimate answer, so everything in the world—what you see, every situation—tells you to practice Vajrasattva. To purify and do Vajrasattva practice is the ultimate answer, to stop the cause to be reborn in the lower realms and the immediate [result] is to have a higher rebirth, to make preparation for death and then to meet the Dharma, to meet the virtuous friend who reveals the path to enlightenment. Then to achieve ultimate happiness, to be free from samsara and to achieve enlightenment for the numberless sentient beings and to free them from the oceans of samsaric sufferings and bring them to full enlightenment.
So a zillion, trillion, million thanks for practicing Dharma and for being a monk. Thank you very much.

Vajrasattva Retreat
Rinpoche gave the following advice to a student who had just completed 100,000 Vajrasattva mantras and retreat.
My most dear, most kind, most precious, wish-fulfilling Jeff,
Numberless thanks from the heart for your Vajrasattva practice for my long life. Also, it purifies your obscurations and negative karma of so many lifetimes, collected from beginningless rebirths.
The immediate thing is to purify the cause of the lower realms and get a higher rebirth, this is what is done. Not only that, to achieve ultimate happiness; not only that, to achieve full enlightenment; not only that, to free the numberless sentient beings from the oceans of samsaric suffering and bring them to full enlightenment. [To free] every single hell being, who are numberless, as well as numberless pretas and numberless animals—every single ant, every cockroach, every rat—not only that, there are numberless universes, so the numberless ants in every universe, the numberless worms and the numberless fish in the ocean, so big and so small you can only see them with a microscope. Nobody is left out —every single butterfly, every frog, spider, snake, rat, every single cricket, every mosquito. It’s amazing, amazing, amazing. Then the numberless human beings, suras, asuras and intermediate state beings in the numberless universes. Wow, wow, wow, thank you very much.
That’s really the ultimate answer, to immediately purify the karma. That saves us from the lower realms, immediately. This is the answer, what should be done in preparation for death, to not be reborn in the lower realms.
