The insects can be gathered together and put into a container, then at the very least, recite OM MANI PADME HUM and blow on them. This mantra alone has incredible benefit.

Take Om Mani around the stupa as much as possible, outside and inside.

The purpose is to bring peace to the animals and to make their lives meaningful, so sooner or later they can be fully awakened and achieve the highest happiness. It is good to do animal liberation along with blessing the animals.
